Seventy-four papers from the June 2003 symposium held by the European Association of Remote Sensing Laboratories discuss new developments in data analysis techniques, very high resolution data, 3D sensing, and imaging spectroscopy, and describe applications to monitoring the ocean and atmosphere, vegetation, ice, and land use. Topics include digital elevation model generation from satellite data, fire risk mapping by integrating dynamic and structural variables, databases for delivering solar radiation data at ground level, the use of neural networks for urban area classification in satellite images, and an altimetric and in situ study of the Antarctic circumpolar current.
